The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan slammed social media users who personally attacked cricketers while criticising them after their ignominious exit from the T20 World Cup.
Nazmul said criticisms are fine but the BCB will take strict action if they cross limits.
Bangladesh were heavily criticised because of their negative batting approach in the match against Afghanistan where they could have reached the semifinal of the tournament.
It created a stir back home with many abusing the cricketers mercilessly.
It wasn't the first time the cricketers had to face heavy criticism on social media but the BCB feels it could be harmful for the players.
"The cricketers are facing personal attacks. There has to be a limit to it. We won't tolerate it further. We have made that decision today," Nazmul told reporters after a meeting at the BCB headquarters on Tuesday.
"You can criticise, but [don't] attack personally, especially at the time of a World Cup. The number of [such abusers] is low. I have serious doubts about their love for the game," he added.
Nazmul, who keeps himself away from social media, often receives links to news and videos from others. He has already watched a YouTube video where captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was attacked viciously.
"It's normal that people would become angry. But what is being said… I am not on social media. I don't open the links I receive nowadays. I watched one. How could he say those things? After watching that, I thought about how this player would show his face to his family let alone play cricket," he added.
