Bio bubble broken in Shakib's practice, BCB to investigate
Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCCDM) and BCB officials sat in a meeting on Saturday afternoon over the breach of the bio-safety zone.
The bio-secure bubble was breached during Shakib Al Hasan's practice session on Friday. The BCB has already started an investigation into the matter.
The country's top cricket governing body confirmed the news through a press release on Saturday.
Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCCDM) and BCB officials sat in a meeting on Saturday afternoon over the breach of the bio-safety zone. After the meeting, CCDM chairman and BCB director Kazi Inam said an investigation had been launched. BCB will take necessary measures in this regard.
CCDM Chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed said: "We are disappointed to note this incident. Both the CCDM and the BCB has taken this very seriously. The health and safety of our teams, players and officials are most important to us. We have invested a significant amount of finances and efforts to make sure the BSE protocols are in place including the best possible accommodation and logistics.
A source from the BCB told The Business Standard (TBS) that Sujon, the net bowler, is a trainee at MASCO Shakib Cricket Academy. They underwent Covid-19 screening before coming to participate in the practice sessions. These two net bowlers are staying at the BCB Academy building with Nasir, a supporting stuff of BCB. Nasir was also present when Shakib was practising. But BCB's chief physician Dr. Debashish Chowdhury stated that the Academy building is not part of the bio-secure bubble.
Before the start of the tournament, CCDM informed that the cricketers and the clubs would have to face heavy penalty if the protocols were breached. Member secretary of the CCDM Ali Hossain, at that time, told TBS that the punishments would include financial penalties and deduction of points.
Shakib came to the field even though the cricketers of Mohammedan were on leave on that day. The southpaw practised at the academy ground of Mirpur Stadium. It is in this practice that the bubble protection was broken. Asif Hasan and Ruel Mia were bowling Shakib in the net.
At the time, there were two net bowlers who were not part of the Mohammedan team. They are not even in the bio bubble zone.
During Shakib's practice, a man wearing a white shirt was seen there. He was taking pictures on the phone, even going in contact with net bowlers.
