Dhaka Capitals suffer fifth consecutive loss
Chasing 178, Chittagong got off to a brisk start in the powerplay, thanks to Usman Khan's contributions
Sabbir Rahman, out of the national team spotlight for some time and not a regular pick in the BPL, reminded everyone of his ability to hit big with an unbeaten 82 off just 33 deliveries for the Dhaka Capitals. Despite his heroics, it was not enough to prevent Dhaka from suffering their fifth consecutive defeat as the Chittagong Kings claimed a seven-wicket victory with three deliveries to spare in the evening clash in Sylhet.
Chasing 178, Chittagong got off to a brisk start in the Powerplay, thanks to Usman Khan's contributions. Although Parvez Hossain struck 17, Usman's 33-ball 55 provided stability at the top. His 51-run stand for the third wicket with Graham Clark (39 off 32) further strengthened the innings before the Pakistan batter departed in the 12th over.
Shamim Hossain then took charge, delivering a decisive 14-ball 30 to counter Mustafizur Rahman in the death overs. Shamim partnered with skipper Mohammad Mithun, who remained unbeaten on 33 off 22, adding 36 runs together to seal Chittagong's second victory in this year's BPL.
Earlier, Dhaka struggled after losing Jason Roy for 1 to Aliss Al Islam. Without regular opener Liton Das, the innings lacked momentum. Stephen Eskinazi (5 off 14) and Shahadat Hossain Dipu (9 off 10) fell cheaply, leaving Dhaka reeling at 66 for 3.
Opener Tanzid Tamim combined with Sabbir to revive the innings, contributing 54 off 48 in a 63-run partnership. However, it was Sabbir's blistering knock—featuring nine sixes and three fours—that stood out, guiding Dhaka to 177 for five.
Khaled Ahmed emerged as Chittagong's standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 21 runs. While Aliss conceded just 25 runs in his four overs, the rest of the bowling attack proved expensive. Yet, the total proved manageable, as Chittagong secured victory, continuing Dhaka's winless streak.
