Inaugural Women's BPL set to take place in February with three teams
The announcement was made by BCB director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim via a press conference outside the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.
Despite the payment controversies going on in the current Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that there will be a franchise league involving female Bangladesh cricketers, the Women's Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL).
The announcement was made by BCB director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim via a press conference outside the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.
"The tournament, which is being done for the first time on a test basis, will have three teams and they will play each other twice with a final match between the top two teams," Fahim told the media
Although the dates have not been confirmed, the tournament is set to take place after the BPL and end before the Champions Trophy begins.
"All the matches will take place in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and we have already spoken to quite a few franchises who are interested in participating. We will announce them soon," Fahin added.
There will be one foreign player in each team instead of four, as we see in the BPL and Fahim explained why the number of teams has been kept low.
"We wanted to have as much quality as possible here which is why we kept the number of teams low. Let's see how things go and we might see more teams later," Fahim concluded.
