IUB students win victory day squash tournament
Marjan Akhter Monika, Assistant Squash Coach at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has won the Female Open Championship at the Aqua Paints and Elite Steel 3rd Victory Day Squash Tournament 2024.
The Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation organised the tournament, which was held from December 17 to 28, 2025, at the Gulshan Club and the Army Officers Club in Dhaka. Participants came from universities, schools, and institutions across the country.
Monika secured the Champion's title with a 3-2 victory against Chadni Sarkar from Uttara High School and College. In the university student's category, MD Raihan, an undergraduate student at IUB, emerged as the Runner-up, losing against Syed Walid Hasan of East West University's 3-2 win.
Major General Hasan Uz Zaman, President of the Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation and Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Army, attended as the Chief Guest. Rashed Chowdhury, Vice President of the Federation and a member of the Board of Trustees at IUB, was present along with M A Quader (Anu), President of Gulshan Club; Mr Sajedur Seraj, Deputy Managing Director of Aqua Paints and Elite Steel; and Ms Nardia Simpson, Acting High Commissioner of the Australian High Commission Bangladesh; Brigadier General Quamrul Islam, SPP (Retd.), General Secretary of the Federation, also attended.
The tournament involved players from IUB, East West University, University of Dhaka, Chittagong University, BUP, BAF Shaheen College Dhaka, and several schools and colleges. Aqua Paints and Elite Steel were key event sponsors, contributing to its success.
