Ivory Coast slump to record-low T20 total against Nigeria
This dismal effort fell three runs short of the previous record of 10, first set by the Isle of Man against Spain in 2023 and equalled by Mongolia against Singapore in September.
Ivory Coast set a new record for the lowest total in T20 international history, collapsing for just seven runs against Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday.
This dismal effort fell three runs short of the previous record of 10, first set by the Isle of Man against Spain in 2023 and equalled by Mongolia against Singapore in September.
The match was part of the T20 World Cup sub-regional Africa qualifier, and Nigeria made the most of their decision to bat first. They posted a mammoth 271-4 in 20 overs, thanks to Selim Salau's blistering 112 off 53 balls and Isaac Okpe's unbeaten 65 off 23, featuring six sixes and three fours.
In reply, Ivory Coast's innings crumbled in just 7.3 overs. Opener Ouattara Mohamed top-scored with four runs before being dismissed. Remarkably, this was the highest individual score for his side, as six batsmen fell for ducks.
Only three others—Mimi Alex, Maiga Ibrahim, and Dje Claude—managed a single run each, while Ladji Ezechiel remained unbeaten on nought. The innings ended without a single boundary.
Nigeria's colossal 264-run victory is not the largest margin in T20 internationals, narrowly missing Zimbabwe's 290-run triumph over Gambia in Nairobi last month.
The qualifier serves as part of the pathway to the 2026 T20 World Cup, with Nigeria delivering a dominant performance to stake their claim.
