John Lewis set to become Tigers' batting consultant

Bangladesh are set to return to international cricket through the ODI series against the West Indies starting on January 20 and a training camp ahead of that will begin on the 10th. Before that, John Lewis, who is set to become the batting consultant of Bangladesh, is likely to join the team.

The English coach will arrive in Dhaka in three-four days' time to sign the contract, according to a reliable source from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). But the duration of the contract is not yet known and likely to be disclosed once Lewis signs it.

The West Indies will arrive in Bangladesh on January 10 to play three ODIs and two Tests. Bangladesh will begin their training on the same day and the coaching staff will return by then.

Physio of the team Julian Calefato and trainer Nicholas Lee arrived in Dhaka on Saturday. Head coach Russell Domingo, pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson and fielding coach Ryan Cook are due to return on the 8th. John Lewis, who is likely to succeed Neil McKenzie, is likely to arrive on the same day.

John Lewis, the former English first-class cricketer, was Sri Lanka's batting consultant in the 2019 World Cup. Lewis served county club Durham for 22 years as player, skipper and coach. Lewis scored 7854 runs in 146 first-class matches for the club.

Lewis played for Essex and Sussex before moving to Durham in 2000. Overall, he has in excess of 10,000 thousand runs in first-class cricket with 16 centuries. 

Lewis took up the role of Durham's head coach in 2013 in absence of Geoff Cook, who was ill. Durham won the county championship under him that year followed by the Royal London One Day Cup in 2014. Lewis was appointed batting coach of Sri Lanka in December 2018 but he left the job right after the World Cup next year.
