Not a great day for top archers at the National Championship
The biggest surprise came in the men's individual recurve event as ace archer Roman Shana lost in the semi finals to Sakib Mollah.
Top archers of the country had a day to forget as underdogs came out on top on the second day of the 11th National Archery Championships.
The biggest surprise came in the men's individual recurve event as ace archer Roman Shana lost in the semi finals to Sakib Mollah.
Sana playing for Bangladesh Ansar, was defeated 6-2 sets by Sakib who represented Tirandaj Shangshad.
Eventually, the event gold went to Ram Krishna Saha of Air Force. Sakib was the beaten finalist and earned silver. Roman got the bronze.
The gold medalist Ram Krishna Saha could not hide his elation and hoped that the win will pave his way back to national team.
"I am very happy. I have worked very hard for the championships. I was not at my best before the tournament. But senior and SA Games medalists inspired me to perform. I prepared well for this and that paid off" said Krishna Saha.
Roman Sana also was beaten in the same category team event, as his team Ansar was defeated by BKSP in the Semis.
There was upset in the men's individual compound event also, as SA Games gold medalist Sohel Rana failed to secure a semi final spot.
Sohel, a player of the Dhaka Army Archery Club was beaten in the last eight by Himu Bacchar of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP). Himu went on to the finals, where he lost to Siam Siddique of Tirandaj Shangshad.
Upsets prevailed in women's category too. Another SA Games gold medalist Ety Khatun was knocked out in the last 8 iof women's individual recurve.
Ety playing for Tirandaj Shangshad lost to Afroza Akhter of Bangladesh Ansar. Afroza went on to win bronze, while gold was grabbed by Beauty Ray of Tirandaz Shangshad.
However, in women's individual compound there was success for SA Games gold medalist Suma Biswas.
Suma representing Bangladesh Ansar, snatched gold by defeating her teammate Shamoli Roy by 143-140 points in the final.
In team events, BKSP defeated Tirandaj Shangshad to reach the women's recurve finals. Where they will battle Dhaka Army Archery Club for the gold. These two teams will fight for the men's recurve and compound gold also.
Meanwhile, in women's team compound final Bangladesh VDP will face Dhaka Archery Club.
All the team event finals will be decided on Thursday.
