Shakib Al Hasan has returned to Kolkata Knight Riders and taken social media by storm. The KKR Twitter handle welcomed the ace all-rounder in a grand style after he was sold to for INR 3.2 core.
Shakib's name came up in the second set of the auction where KKR made the opening bid for Shakib. The southpaw who was listed at the highest base price of INR 2 crore. Punjab Kings, who changed their name from Kings XI Punjab, then joined in on the bidding, raising the price to 2.2 crores. KKR then pushed the bid to 2.4 crores almost immediately after that and Punjab Kings then further raised his price to 2.6 crores following an intense discussion at their table.
Finally, Shakib was sold for 3.2 crores. It will be Shakib's seventh season with the Knight Riders.
KKR was quick to welcome their old knight who previously played six seasons for them. They tweeted "Shakib is coming back to Kolkata" letting everyone know the return of the premier all-rounder to their side again. They believe the southpaw is back for a third title this time.
They later tweeted saying "Amader moyna ghore firey asche" in Bengali which means 'Our moyna has returned home'. They also started a Twitter trend with the hashtag #WelcomeShakib.
Shakib's performance with both bat and ball in 2012 and 2014 was very important in their championships. Shakib has played eight seasons in IPl so far, six of them have come for KKR and the rest for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The southpaw has scored a total of 746 runs at an average of 21.31 and scalped 59 wickets in the 63 matches played in IPL. Shakib had a contract with Sunrisers till 2020 but the franchise let him go after his ban.
