Pep faces Pochettino as City and Spurs look for perfect start

Well, everybody remembers that crazy quarter-final of the Champions League last season. That disallowed Sterling goal at the end and how Spurs scraped through to the semis on away goals.
That run ended in the final and it was once again agony for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League as they couldn’t turn their domestic dominance into European glory. Spurs, on the other hand, reached the final but eventually lost to Liverpool and their trophy cabinet stayed empty. 
When it comes to domestic tournaments, Manchester City have been unstoppable. They won all the three domestic trophies last season and also got their hands on the Community Shield after beating Liverpool. Their near-perfect squad was even more shined when they added Rodri and Joao Cancelo to their squad. They are looking for their third consecutive league title, and are favorites to do so. They brushed aside a solid West Ham side by a margin of 5-0 in a match where they weren’t at their best - this signifies how colossal this team is. 
Tottenham finished fourth last season without any new signings, but as works of the new stadium were finished, they had quite a budget and have brought in Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovanni Lo Celso. Mauricio Pochettino has more firepower in his arsenal than ever, and even though their first match against newly promoted Aston Villa was tough, they managed to come out winners. Pep Guardiola even hailed them as the second-best team in Europe, and according to the Champions League, that is true. 
The last encounter between the sides was right after that crazy quarter-final, where teenager Phil Foden’s goal secured maximum points for City. Both the teams will look to win their second match and not fall from grace at the start of the season. 

Possible Lineups 

Benjamin Mendy is still sidelined for the Citizens, which means Oleksandr Zinchenko’s stint at left-back continues. Sergio Aguero is likely to be brought in instead of Gabriel Jesus considering his brilliant record against Spurs, and Bernardo Silva might regain his place in the starting lineup in place of Riyad Mahrez.

Transfer rumors have been swirling around Tottenham’s midfield maestro Christian Eriksen, but he should regain his place in the starting lineup in place of Erik Lamela. Jan Vertonghen might take up Davinson Sanchez’s place on his return and Heung-Min Son, the Spurs hero against City last year will miss the match due to suspension.
