Tamim stars on BCL day 2 with double ton
Riding on Tamim’s double and Mominul Haque’s century, Islami Bank East Zone went into a comfortable 182-run lead against Walton Central Zone at Mirpur.
Bangladesh national team opener stole the show on the second day of the 8th Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) as he was unbeaten on 222 at the end of the day.
Riding on Tamim's double and Mominul Haque's century, Islami Bank East Zone went into a comfortable 182-run lead against Walton Central Zone at Mirpur.
Earlier on the first day, Central Zone were all out for 213 in their first innings and Pinak Ghosh and Tamim put up 62-run opening stand to hand East Zone a good start. After Pinak's dismissal for 26, Tamim put up a mammoth 296-run stand with Mominul Haque as both of them crossed three figures.
Mominul was sent back by Mukidul Islam Mugdho on 111 but Tamim and Yasir Ali Chowdhury saw the day out as East Zone finished on 395-2.
In the other match of the day at Chattogram, BCB North Zone somewhat recovered from a 46-5 to score 207 against BCB South Zone. Shafiul Islam had wreaked havoc on the North Zone batting lineup on the first day as he picked up five wickets to reduce them to 46-5 at the end of the day's play.
But fifties from Rony Talukder and Ariful Haque ensured that BCB North crossed the 200-run mark in reply to BCB South's 262. Shafiul Islam picked up another wicket to take his wicket tally to six with skipper Abdur Razzak picking up the rest.
In their second innings, BCB North were dealt with a blow as their opener Anamul Haque was retired hurt and Fazle Mahmud, the centurion from the previous innings, was sent back early but Shahriar Nafees and Shamsur Rahman ensured that they did not lose any more wickets to finish the day on 40-1, with a lead of 95.
