We should have scored at least 170: Shanto
“The wicket was good, bit slow, but we should have made at least 170,” he said. “It's very important for the top-order to get runs like we did today, that's a big boost, hopefully the bowlers will continue their form. Looking for a good show against India in our next match.”
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto feels Bangladesh should have scored at least 170 after the 28-run loss via DLS method against Australia in their first Super Eight match in the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh lacked intent throughout the innings. Litton Das took 10 balls to get off the mark and looked defensive like never before especially against Josh Hazlewood whereas Australia openers David Warner and Travis Head took down the bowlers straightaway.
Litton eventually made 16 off 23 and his slow start meant Bangladesh failed to maximise the powerplay despite Najmul Hossain Shanto's quick start.
He got out at the wrong time and Shanto also slowed down when the spinners were operating. Only Towhid Hridoy tried to force the pace with his breezy 40 off 28 but did not get enough support and it resulted in a below par total of 140.
"The wicket was good, bit slow, but we should have made at least 170," Shanto said after the match.
Shanto was relieved to get some runs finally after a string of low scores in the group stage. Going into this match with the best score of 14 in the tournament, Shanto looked at home especially against the pacers in his 41 off 36 and added 58 in eight overs for the second wicket with Litton.
"It's very important for the top-order to get runs like we did today, that's a big boost, hopefully the bowlers will continue their form. Looking for a good show against India in our next match," he said.
