Slovenia PM falsely congratulates Trump for winning election
Right-wing leader Janez Jansa called the election early—for the wrong side
Slovenian far-right Prime Minister Janez Jansa offered his congratulations on Twitter on Tuesday to Donald Trump, writing, "More delays and facts denying from #MSM, bigger the final triumph for #POTUS."
Since the error, he had been retweeting conspiracy theories accusing the democrats of voter fraud, reports Foreign Policy.
News organisations that back Jansa, such as the far-right Nova24, following his lead, posted fictitious reports about voter fraud. They have voiced Trump by blaming the mainstream media for alleged corruption and claiming that the courts will eventually favour Trump.
With Jansa being a far-right leader with anti-immigration stands, it is not entirely surprising. He served six months in prison after his second term as prime minister for corruption before Slovenia's Constitutional Court overturned his conviction. He is a close ally of Hungarian autocrat Viktor Orban.
It remains to be seen whether Jansa will eat his words and eventually congratulate the president-elect.
