1,000 Bangladeshi migrant workers register to return home from Lebanon
The Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon has issued a notification, urging those willing to return to register for the repatriation process
Around 1,000 Bangladeshi migrant workers living in Lebanon have expressed their desire to return home as the conflict between Israel and the West Asian country continues to intensify.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, has been working in coordination to facilitate their safe return, according to a foreign ministry press statement issued today (9 October).
The Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon has already issued a notification, urging those willing to return to register for the repatriation process.
"The government is maintaining close contact with all relevant parties to ensure the safe return of all interested individuals," the press release stated.
A high-level inter-ministerial meeting has already taken place in this regard, which was attended by the foreign secretary, expatriates' welfare secretary, and the managing director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The heads of Bangladesh's missions in the Middle East also participated via Zoom to assess the situation and plan the way forward.
The foreign secretary has directed Bangladesh's ambassador in Lebanon to take necessary steps to ensure the safe return of those wishing to come back. Additionally, instructions were given to ensure the security of those who choose to remain in Lebanon.
