13 Chhatra Dal men placed on 5-day remand over clash with cops

A Dhaka court today placed some 13 Chhatra Dal men on a 5-day remand over, Sunday's clash with police at National Press Club.

The investigating officer of the case requested remand plea for 10 days for proper investigation. After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor granted remand to each of them for five days.
The remanded accused are- Manjurul Alam, Ataur Rahman, Masud Rana, Shafiqul Islam, Shahiraj, Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan Raju, Kabir Hossain, Monowar Islam, Ariful Haque, Anichur Rahman, Khandaker Anik, Abu Hayat Md. Zulfiqar, Atif Morshed and Ramzan.
According to case statement, Chhatra Dal activists staged protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Sunday (28 February) without any permission.
Police tried to stop them. But Chhatra Dal activists took position inside the press club. At one stage, they started throwing brickbats on police. Later, police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control.
Shahbagh Police Sub-Inspector Palash Shah filed a case accusing 48 BNP leaders and activists in the incident on Sunday night.
Besides, 200-250 anonymous people have been accused.
Attempt to murder, attack and vandalism charges have been brought against the accused, said the OC adding that the arrested accused would be produced before the court.
