Not Gulshan or Banani! Paltan has least number of Dhaka residents below poverty line, survey finds
The international poverty line is $2.15 per day, based on 2017 purchasing power parity

Dhaka's Paltan has the least number of residents living under the poverty line at 1%, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has found.
The survey, titled "Poverty Map of Bangladesh", also revealed stark economic disparities across the country – for instance, 19.1% of residents in Kamrangirchar are below the poverty line.
The international poverty line is $2.15 per day, based on 2017 purchasing power parity.
On those expected to be on the list with least number of poor residents, the second is Dhanmondi, with 1.5% living below poverty line, Gulshan (3.2%), Mohammadpur (4.6%), Rampura (6.3%), Badda (7.4%), Banani (11.3%) and Mirpur (12.9%), among others.
Dhaka district itself has an overall poverty rate of 19.6%, while the national poverty rate stands at 19.2%.
The report also highlights the significant gap between affluent and impoverished regions, shedding light on ongoing challenges in the country's fight against poverty.
Rural areas experience a higher poverty rate at 20.3%, while urban poverty is at 16.5%.
Madaripur district, meanwhile, has the highest poverty rate, with 54.4% of its population living below the poverty line, while Noakhali has the least poor people, with a poverty rate of just 6.1%.
In terms of individual upazilas, Madaripur's Dasar is the poorest, with an alarming 63.2% of the population living in poverty.
The report highlights the continued economic challenges faced by many in Bangladesh, as well as the stark contrasts between wealthy and impoverished areas in the capital and throughout the country.
