16 convicts get presidential mercy

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has pardoned 16 convicts, who have served half of their jail term, on the occasion of the Victory Day.
They got the Presidential pardon as per the Article 49 of the Constitution, said a press note signed by Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Media) Jannat-ul Farhad issued on 3 December.
The Article 49 of the Constitution stipulates that the President shall have power to grant pardons, reprieves and respites and to remit, suspend or commute any sentence passed by any court, tribunal or other authority.
