19 banks set up fake note detection machine at capital’s cattle markets

The Bangladesh Bank has recently instructed banks to provide fake currency detection service by manned by experienced cash officers at cattle markets in Dhaka.

Banks cannot charge any fees for this. They also have to follow health rules to curb the coronavirus infection. 

From July 28 till the night before Eid-ul Azha, banks have to provide the service to protect against the ill motive of fake currency syndicates. 

The Department of Currency Management of the Bangladesh Bank has also instructed banks to destroy fake currency if detected at the cattle markets.

The central bank has instructed seven banks to provide a fake currency detection service by setting up booths with note detection machines in the six markets that Dhaka North City Corporation has organised.

Agrani Bank and IFIC Bank will provide a currency detection service at Mirpur Gabtoli cattle market, Sonali Bank will provide the same service at Uttara cattle market. Islami Bank will provide it at Kaowla cattle market, Dutch-Bangla Bank will provide it at Dumni Bazar cattle market, Janata Bank at Vatara cattle market and Rupali Bank will provide the services at Uttarkhan cattle market.

In the Dhaka south city corporation areas, 12 banks will provide counterfeit note detection services. 

Brac Bank at north Shajahanpur, Exim Bank at Hazaribag, Shahjalal Islami Bank at Postogola, First Security Islami Bank at Meradia bazar, Dhaka Bank at Kamlapur, National Credit and Commerce Bank (NCC) at Jatrabari, Social Islami Bank at Dhupkhola yard, Mutual Trust Bank at Dholai Khal, Eastern Bank at Aftabnagar, United Commercial Bank at Amulia Model town, Mercantile Bank at Lalbagh and Southeast Bank will set up a fake currency detection machine at Demra cattle market. 

Offices of the Bangladesh Bank in other parts of the country have instructed local bank branches to set up a fake currency detection service at local cattle markets.
