1,911 case files go missing from Ctg court, GD filed
A total of 1,911 case files from 30 courts under the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge's jurisdiction have gone missing from outside the Public Prosecutor's (PP) office between 13-31 December during the court's vacation.
Chattogram Metropolitan PP Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan filed a general diary (GD) at Kotwali police station yesterday (5 January) reporting the missing files.
Confirming the missing incident PP Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan told The Business Standard, "These were the documents of the cases dated before 2015. As there was no space in the office room the old documents have been kept in the corridor in front of the office since April last year."
"There is no serious concern over the missing documents as these were photocopies. The original documents are with the court. However, I have filed a GD and informed the higher authority of the matter," he added.
He expressed hope that police would identify and apprehend those responsible.
Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Karim confirmed that an investigation is underway to locate the missing files and determine the cause of the incident.
The Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Court is situated on the third floor of the new court building and oversees 30 courts, including additional and joint session juges courts.
