India yet to respond to letter seeking Hasina’s repatriation: Touhid
Dhaka sent a diplomatic letter to New Delhi on 23 December seeking Sheikh Hasina’s return to Bangladesh
Bangladesh has not yet received a response from New Delhi regarding the letter sent to facilitate the return of Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Affairs Adviser M Touhid Hossain said today (8 January).
"We have not yet received any response for the letter sent to India for her [Hasina's] return," he said in response to a query from journalists at the foreign ministry this afternoon.
When asked about the extension of former ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's visa by New Delhi, the adviser said, "I also learned about it through media. What can we do about it?"
On 23 December, Dhaka sent a diplomatic letter to New Delhi seeking Sheikh Hasina's return from India to Bangladesh on allegations of crimes against humanity.
On 5 August last year, the Awami League government was overthrown in a student-led mass uprising, after which ousted prime Minister Hasina fled the country and took refuge in India.
