Chattogram zoo welcomes 2 new tiger cubs
The cubs were born on 19 September
Jaya, a tigress in Chattogram zoo, gave birth to two female cubs a month ago.
Deputy Curator of the zoo Dr Shahadat Hossain confirmed the news to The Business Standard.
The cubs, born on 19 September, are yet to be named and to make a public appearance.
Hossain said in 2020, Jaya gave birth to three cubs but two of them died as Jaya was reluctant to take care of them.
The third cub named Joe Biden survived, thanks to the zoo staff who rescued him in a critical condition and provided care.
In December 2016, a pair of Bengal Tigers were brought from South Africa to the Chattogram Zoo for Tk33 lakh. At present, the zoo has a total of 12 tigers – three males and nine females.
The zoo now also hosts some 620 animals of 66 species.
