2,500 tonnes of onion to be released from Ctg port tomorrow
The onions will be released and handed over to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh on the same day
Chattogram port is scheduled to receive around twenty-five hundred tonnes of onion imported by City Group from Turkey tomorrow.
A bill of entry has been filed at the Chattogram Custom House today by the importer to unload the 100 containers of onion.
The Chattogram Custom House and Chattogram Port Authority are preparing in advance to unload the containers at the port as soon as the ship arrives at the jetty tomorrow.
Biswajit Saha, general manager of City Group, said, "The cargo vessel MCC Taipei carrying the 2,500 tonnes of onion from Turkey will reach the outer anchorage of Chattogram port on December 6. We have already filed a bill of entry to the custom house through the C&F agent to release the onions immediately."
"The onions will be released and handed over to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) on the same day," he added.
Speaking to The Business Standard, an official of the import section of Chattogram Custom House said, "The carrying and forwarding agency M Hasan and Company filed the bill of entry for immediate release of the 2,500 tonnes of onion imported by City Group."
The customs official said the Ministry of Commerce has issued specific instructions for taking necessary measures to expedite the onions as soon as the consignment reaches the port.
"That is why we are clearing out all the formalities and documentation work by today," said the official.
The onions have been imported from the Turkish food products wholesaler Hakan Gıda ve San. Dış Tic. Ltd. Şti.
A senior official of Chattogram port informed that from September 29 to December 4, 12,979 tonnes of onion have been imported through the port.
"Of them, 11,712 tonnes of onion have been distributed so far," he added.
"Onions are coming in almost daily. Four more container vessels at the outer shore of the port are housing another 1,037 tonnes of onion. The port is giving highest priority for quick release of the onions," the senior official informed.
Earlier in November, City Group imported 25 tonnes of onion in two separate airfreights from Turkey. All the onions were handed over to TCB at a rate of Tk37.50 per kg.
