The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold elections to some 323 Union Parishads (UP) of 20 districts on April 11, in the first phase of the UP polls.
It will announce the election schedule in the first week of the next month.
Election Commission Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandakar made the disclosure following a meeting at the commission this afternoon, reports Prothom Alo.
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in 41 of the 323 UPs, he said, adding they will select the UPs later.
The EC secretary also disclosed that nine municipalities will go to polls on the same day, in the sixth phase of municipality election.
"The only goal of the commission is to ensure free, fair, credible and participatory elections. All arrangements will be made in this regards," he added.
The last union parishad elections were held in 2016 in multiple phases. As before, the candidates will contest this time with their party symbols.
