36 held from Dinajpur while being trafficked to India
Because of their poverty, they wanted to go to India for work, the detainees told police
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested 36 people, including women and children, from the border area of Birampur upazila in Dinajpur on Tuesday night while they were being trafficked to India without passports.
The BGB members have handed them over to the Birampur Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, and filed a case in this regard.
Among the arrestees, 13 are men, 12 are women and 11 children.

The BGB members of Bhaigar BOP detained them while they were preparing to leave for India, 250 yards inside Bangladesh, from Border Pillar 291/25S in Khiar Mamudpur village bordering in Birampur upazila.
The detainees are: Bimal Chandra, Mrs Alo Rani, Bhakti Rani, Narayan Chandra, Dayal Chandra, Babita Rani, Ratan Sarkar, Purnima Rani, Milon Chandra, Alok Chandra, Hridoy Chandra, Aduri Rani and Namita Rani of Banka villages under Atrai upazila of Naogaon district; Dhiren Chandra, Swaraswati, Biren Pramanik, Purnima Rani of Singsara village of the same upazila; Joydev, Champa Rani of Nauduli village; Kinar Pramanik, Gauri Rani, Utpal Chandra, Kajol Rani of Cheragpur of Mohacevpur upazila; Polash Chandra, Asha Sarker of Boni Kishori village under Basail of Tangail district; and 11 children with them.
Because of their poverty, they wanted to go to India for work, the detainees told police.
Shukur Ali, Sohel Rana and Sahar Ali of Khiar Mahmudpur of Birampur upazila took money from them to make arrangements to send them India, they claimed.
Birampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said that the BGB members had handed over 36 people, including women and children, to Birampur Police Station and filed a case.
"Accused Sahar Ali, Sohel Rana and Shukur Ali Sarkar have been absconding since the incident. Legal action will be taken against the accused after investigation," said the OC.
