3rd phase of municipality elections was fair, peaceful: EC senior secretary
The turnout in the municipality elections was around 60-70%, said the senior secretary of the Election Commission
The third phase of voting in 62 municipalities was fair and peaceful, claimed Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Md Alamgir.
He was speaking to journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban at 7.30pm on Saturday after the third phase of voting in the municipalities ended.
Md Alamgir said, "According to the information I have received from various sources including the media, it can be said that the election was free and fair. The vote was peaceful except for troubles in only two centers. Problems in two out of 62 centres are insignificant."

"Voting was suspended in a centre in Jamalpur's Sarishabari municipality as 10 pages were lost from the rolls. The returning and polling officers there were also arrested. Ballot boxes were vandalised in a centre in Cumilla's Barura municipality, so voting was suspended there as well," said the senior secretary of the Election Commission.
When asked to comment on an attack on the supporters of a councillor candidate in Tangail's Bhuapur municipality, the senior secretary said, "We have no such information. It may be a rumor."
Commenting on the turnout, the senior secretary said, "The turnout in the municipality elections was good. The turnout was around 60-70%, as always."
