RAB has seized the victim's mobile phone and murder weapon from their possession
The elite force of the Bangladesh Police has arrested four suspects of an inter-district robber gang members – accused of killing a cattle trader and robbing money – from Ashulia Bazar of the capital at 1.30am on Wednesday.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has also seized the victim's mobile phone and murder weapon from their possession.
The arrestees are Amzad Hossain, 45, of Tangail, Babul Hossain,40, of Natore, Uzzal Mia, 26, of Gaibandha and Ajmal, 27, of Natore.
Rab-1 Commanding Officer Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem briefed the issue, on early Wednesday, at RAB media centre in Karwan Bazar.
During primary interrogation the accused confessed their crime and said they are the active member of an organized robber gang, Sarwar said.
This 15-20 member robber gang has been active, for long, in places across the capital, said Amzad.
On August 10, the gang set up a plan to rob a cattle traders' group. They managed a truck and offered the cheapest ride to the Natore-bound cattle trader group – Tk 200 per person – said RAB sources.
As they got into the truck from capital's Merul Badda, the traders had no idea about what was going to happen next.
Md Kalim Uddin Fakir, 50, and his brother-in-law Md Bakul Ali Sheikh, 23, are two of the victims.
Just when the truck got started, the gang members – hiding in the truck – started beating them with hammers and bread rollers. Some of the robbers tied their hands and legs, said Bakul.
While torturing them, the robbers extorted Tk 12 lakh they earned from selling sacrificial animals in Dhaka,
As the robbers had the money, they put the cattle traders in sacks and threw them out of the moving truck, said Bakul.
Kalim got seriously injured. Other cattle traders then rushed him to the nearest hospital but the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees said they got Tk 14 thousand each for this robbery.
Most of them have different professions. For making extra money, they commit robberies.
Bakul filed a murder and robbery case with Turag police station, on August 12, against the suspects.
