44 cops killed during students’ movement: Police headquarters
The police headquarters today (18 August) released a list of 44 police men who were killed during the recent students' movement.
According to a press release from the police headquarters' media wing, the deceased officers include 3 inspectors, 11 sub-inspectors, 7 additional sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector, one naik, and 21 constables.
About 650 people were killed in the student movement in Bangladesh from 16 July to 11 August, said a preliminary report of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights published on 16 August.
According to the report, nearly 400 deaths were reported from 16 July to 4 August, while around 250 people were reportedly killed following the new wave of protests between 5 and 6 August.
