A devastating fire broke out in the Ambag area of Gazipur's Konabari yesterday midnight, destroying 57 houses across two colonies.
The blaze started at around 12:15am and was brought under control after nearly 1.5 hours of effort.
Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service said, "The fire engulfed 70 to 80 houses, which were home to people from various professions."
Upon receiving information, two units from Konabari Modern Fire Service were dispatched to the scene, with reinforcements arriving shortly after from two additional units of the Sarabo Modern Fire Service, he said.
The combined efforts of all four units successfully brought the blaze under control by 1:30am.
Belongings from the 57 houses in two colonies were completely destroyed in the fire. However, several hundred other residences in the area were saved from the blaze.
