71 underprivileged girls learning English at Asian University for Women
The University launched the Community Based Learning Center for girls aged 6-16 at its permanent campus in Chattogram
Around 71 underprivileged girls are studying English, basic math, science and technology at Asian University for Women (AUW).
The AUW launched the Community Based Learning Center for girls aged 6-16 at its permanent campus in Arefin Nagar of Chattogram on October 9.
The Asian University for Women said that they have selected young girls who live around the campus, especially daughters of readymade garment (RMG) workers, slum dwellers and children from ultra-poor families who are the first in their family to get education.

"Girls who attend the weekend school will be taught English language skills, basic math, science and technology and personal development. This is the weekend free learning centre for them," said Muhammed Obidur Rahman, manager of Service Learning and Community Engagement.
An event of AUW Distant Education Club titled "Coming Together with the AUW Community Based Learning Center for Girls" was held at AUW campus on Saturday.
The Distant Education Club aims to teach communication and language to those who live in rural areas using technology. Children of ready-made garments workers and those who reside in the surrounding slums participated in this event.
Manager of Service Learning and Community Engagement Muhammed Obidur Rahman, President of Distant Education Club Yanna Lao, Vice President Pema Yangzom, Secretary Sander Win, Treasurer Kinley Wangmo was also present at the event.
35 student-led clubs are currently active at AUW. These clubs provide an opportunity for students to volunteer and engage in community service.
