Families of 105 children killed during the uprising to receive financial aid
The interim government released a preliminary list today (6 October) of 737 people who died during the student-led mass protests in July and August.
This is an increase from the draft list of 708 released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 24 September.
The reviewed list, compiled from various public and private hospitals, can be accessed online at https://medical-info.dghs.gov.bd/.
Additionally, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S Murshid announced that 105 children were among those killed during the uprising.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, she confirmed that each affected family would receive Tk50,000 as compensation, reports UNB.
The list of deceased children was finalised by the Health Services Division, with the grant and certificates scheduled to be distributed today. The ceremony will take place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
Sharmin also mentioned that Tk82,70,898 has been allocated to assist students injured during the protests. The funds will be distributed through the Social Service Office and the Upazila Patient Welfare Association.
Additionally, the government is seeking $5 million from the World Bank to support the rehabilitation and treatment of those affected by the uprising.
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs is currently operating 12 daycare centres and is working to establish daycare facilities in all government institutions by June 2026. The government is also exploring private-sector daycare options to boost employment and provide essential services.
