Gold worth Tk7.80cr seized at Dhaka airport
The seized gold bars were concealed inside imported fabric
Customs officials seized 96 gold bars concealed inside imported fabric at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The seized gold, weighing over 11 Kgs is worth approximately Tk7.80 crore.
The import order of the fabric was made by Bestec Bd Limited based in Karnafuli EPZ and Eastern Apparels Limited of Sholoshohor, said Dr Md Abdur Rouf, director general of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, while briefing reporters on Sunday.
Mashfi Enterprise of Dhaka's Shyamoli area worked as the clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent for the importers, he added.
Customs intelligence sources a departmental case and a criminal case have been filed on charges of smuggling gold.
In the current fiscal year, the customs authority has so far seized 154 Kgs of gold priced at approximately Tk109 crore.
