ACC to launch inquiry into 'midnight voting' in 2018 election
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the decision today (22 January) saying, "Those found to have been involved in the election process will be investigated"
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to launch an inquiry into allegations of abuse of power, ballot manipulation, and financial transactions in the 2018 11th parliamentary election.
The inquiry will focus on officials from the administration, election commission, police, RAB, and others implicated in facilitating the election of certain parliament members.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the decision today (22 January) saying, "Those found to have been involved in the election process will be investigated."
"Allegations of irregularities during the 2018 11th parliamentary election, such as vote casting the night before election day, ballot manipulation, voter turnout exceeding 90% in some centres, extensive financial dealings, and abuse of power to secure victories for certain candidates, have been reported by various media outlets and submitted to the ACC," he added.
The accusations also implicate key officials, including the then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League leaders, and high-ranking government officials, in orchestrating these irregularities.
"A five-member team has been formed to investigate, utilising video evidence, domestic and international media reports, and election result sheets," he said.
