ACC launches probe against ex-MPs Rimon, Ashraf Khan
Based on an intelligence reports revealing assets beyond their known sources of income, the commission has decided to launch public inquiry into their wealth
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of illegal wealth accumulation by former Barguna-2 MP Showkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon and Narsingdi-2 MP Anwarul Ashraf Khan Dilip.
Confirming the news, a senior official of the anti-graft body yesterday told TBS that Hasanur Rahman Rimon allegedly accumulated illegal wealth through various irregularities and corrupt practices, including misuse of power.
Rimon possesses non-agricultural assets worth Tk1.5 crore in different areas, including Barishal's Agarpur Road, Rupatali, Zagua and Dakshin Alekanda, and Barguna's Naltona and Patharghata.
Additionally, he owns agricultural land worth Tk58 lakh and has business capital amounting to Tk15 crore. His other investments total Tk46 lakh, and he owns three vehicles, including a Land Cruiser Prado, a microbus, and a Toyota Premio.
Furthermore, he has Tk18 lakh in various banks and cash under his wife's name. Sources also indicate that he has significant wealth both within the country and abroad.
On the other hand, Ashraf Khan Dilip allegedly acquired illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption, including abuse of power.
In the 2023-24 tax year, he acquired movable assets worth Tk8.62 crore. This includes Tk17 lakh in cash, Tk4.52 crore deposited in banks and financial institutions, and a savings certificate of Tk2 crore.
Additionally, he owns electronics worth Tk5 lakh, and vehicles, including a Toyota Allion under his wife's name, as well as a Land Cruiser, dump truck, car, and ship in his own name.
He also possesses immovable assets totaling Tk3.36 crore which includes Tk2.15 crore in his own name and Tk1.21 crore in his wife's name. He also possesses non-agricultural land worth Tk1 crore in his name and Tk1 core in his wife's name.
The ACC insiders further revealed that he holds significant wealth both within the country and abroad.
