ACC seeks travel ban on Morshed Khan

Bangladesh’s graft watchdog has asked the immigration authorities to bar BNP Vice-chairman M Morshed Khan, who faces corruption charges, from leaving the country.
Morshed and 11 officials of the party had been trying to escape the country along with their family members, stated the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in a letter sent to the Special Superintendent of Immigration police, on Monday.
To ensure a fair investigation into the allegations made against them, they must be stopped, it said.

Against the former chairman and directors of Pacific Telecom Bangladesh Limited – largest stakeholder of Citycell – the travel ban has been sought.
The AB Bank issued a guarantee for Citycell without any verification.
For expanding the business of Citycell, Tk348.50 crore was borrowed from eight banks and financial institutions, using AB Bank guarantee.
As the loan was not paid on time, the borrowed money rose to Tk383 crore 22 lakh 10,363.
On June 28, 2017, the corruption watchdog filed a case against 16 people, including Morshed and his wife Nasrin Khan for misappropriating over Tk383 from AB Bank for Citycell.
Failing to pay overdue fees to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the country's first telecom operator was shut down in 2016. Morshed is its chairman and his wife Nasrin is one of the directors.
Morshed was also the chairman of AB Bank.
