‘Accuracy of information is a must for effective crisis communication’
Techniques of crisis communication were also discussed in the training sessions
Communication experts in a training workshop emphasised the accuracy of the information and target-based information distribution for successful crisis management like pandemic situations.
The views were expressed in a 2-day long training programme on Communication Skill Enhancement organised by National Resilience Programme (NRP) concluded on Monday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The participants have imparted knowledge on modern approaches of communication including effective uses of social media for making the communication faster and people centred.

The experts mentioned digital platforms have advanced the communication approaches and Covid-19 context has created an opportunity for minimising times and human resources in achieving the targets through proper communication channels.
The experts further added that the implication of modern communication approaches is supportive in achieving resilience linking with the Sustainable Development Goals and Sendai Framework of Actions for DRR.
It was mentioned in the workshop that NRP is going to introduce a Digital Risk Information Platform for making access to risk information to the planning officials. Techniques of crisis communication were also discussed in the training sessions.
In his address as the chief guest in the closing session of the training, Md Mohsin, secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, emphasised professionalism of institutional communication for quality services to the citizens of Bangladesh.
Funded by DFID and SIDA, NRP is being implemented by four government agencies having a technical partnership with UNDP, UN Women and UNOPS. A total of 25 participants from NRP projects and officials from the government's implementing agencies participated in this training course.
The closing session was also addressed by Ranjit Kumar Sen, ndc, additional secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Md Syeduzzaman, joint chief of Programming Division, Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain, programme coordinator of NRP, Nusrat Noman, deputy secretary of the Economic Relations Division and Arif Abdullah Khan, programme specialist of UNDP Bangladesh.
Dr SM Morshed, project manager of NRP moderated the closing session and Md Mohsin distributed certificates among the participants.
