Agriculture ministry to plant 100 trees in each upazila
In the second phase of the programme, 100 more trees will be planted in each union
The Ministry of Agriculture will plant 100 trees in each upazila as part of a countrywide tree-planting programme in the country to celebrate the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In the second phase of the programme, 100 more trees will be planted in each union.
The agriculture minister Mohammad Abdur Razzak was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the tree-planting programme on the occasion of Mujib's centenary from his official residence on Tuesday morning. Agriculture secretary Md Nasiruzzaman chaired the programme.
Later, the minister inaugurated the programme by planting a cashew nut sapling on the premises of his residence.
Dr Md Abdur Razzaque said the tree-planting programme is very important at present as climate change poses a serious threat to the environment, human life and biodiversity around the world. Human livelihoods are also under threat. That is why more trees need to be planted to deal with the adverse effects of climate change.
"The ministry has taken initiatives to plant trees in every village, union and upazila-district. In the first phase, the Ministry of Agriculture will plant 100 trees in each upazila and around 50,000 trees across the country to celebrate the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In the second phase, 100 more trees will be planted in each union of the country," he said.
