Another cargo ship released by Arakan Army reaches Teknaf port
The ship reached Teknaf land port around 1pm
Another Bangladeshi cargo ship, after being released from Arakan Army's detention, reached Teknaf land port today (1 February).
The ship, along with three others, was seized by the rebel group in the Naf River on 16 and 17 January while carrying goods from Yangon to Teknaf.
While the other three ships were released shortly after, this vessel remained in their custody until today.
Syed Mohammad Anwar Hossain, manager of United Landport Teknaf Ltd, which manages the operations at the port, confirmed the ship's arrival around 1pm today.
The cargo included goods like dried fruits, betel nuts, and coffee, belonging to several traders including Shawkat Ali, Omar Farooq, Md Ayash, MA Hashem, Md Omar Wahid, and Abdur Shukkur Saddam.
Ehteshamul Haque Bahadur, general secretary of the Teknaf Land Port C&F Agent Association, expressed relief among traders at the ship's return.
The Arakan Army had initially seized the four cargo ships, containing over 50,000 bags of goods, under the pretext of a search in Myanmar's territorial waters. Three of the ships, including the Saturu and MB Hercules, were released on 19 and 20 January, carrying a total of 27,722 bags of goods and 1,000 CFT of wood.
The fourth ship, carrying over 30,000 bags of goods, was released today.
