Army chief inaugurates tree plantation programme

Army chief General Aziz Ahmed inaugurated Tree Plantation programme-2020 on Tuesday to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
General Aziz planted a white plumeria seedling at the Allah Mosque premises in Dhaka Cantonment. At the same time, he inaugurated the programme through a video conference with all other cantonments in the country.
The slogan for this year's tree plantation programme is "shobuj brikkho-nirmol poribesh, Bangabandhur Bangladesh" (Green trees-clean environment, the Bangladesh of Bangabandhu).
Various kinds of trees will be planted throughout the tree plantation programme. All cantonments, training areas, firing ranges, DOHS and Jalshiri Housing Project will come under the month-long programme.
Bangladesh Army will plant more than three lakh plants this year.
The aims of the programme are to increase the forest resources, maintain ecological balance, and make the 100th birthday of the Father of the Nation more meaningful.
