Asif Mahmud calls for patience amid student clashes
The adviser also stated that appropriate legal actions would be taken against those involved in the incident
Despite repeated appeals for resolution through dialogue, clashes among students could not be prevented, said Asif Mahmud, adviser for Youth and Sports of Bangladesh.
"Had the law enforcement agencies acted against them, it could have led to violence and casualties. I urge all parties to exercise patience. It is regrettable to witness such condemnable acts like clashes at a time when we should be building the nation together," Mahmud wrote in a Facebook post.
The adviser also stated that appropriate legal actions would be taken against those involved in the incident.
This came following a clash between students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
Three students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) at Demra died during the clash according to a press release issued by DMRC.
Roads in the Demra-Jatrabari area are still blocked although the clashes have ended.
Six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh have also been deployed in the area, where police and army have been working to establish order since the clashes started in the morning.
