One killed as BNP-Jamaat men clash in Kushtia

An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami has succumbed to injuries received during a clash between the party's supporters and BNP men over a dispute regarding the candidacy of the president post of a local high school's managing committee in Kushtia's Mirpur.
The victim, Khokon Molla, 32, son of Nousher Molla of Burapara in Mirpur, died from his wounds at a Dhaka hospital on Monday (13 January), said Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station.
The clash took place at Murapara Secondary High School on Sunday (13 January), the OC said.
Speaking to reporters, Prof Mawlana Abul Hashem, ameer of Kushtia district unit Jamaat-e-Islami, claimed the clash has left at least 35 Jamaat men injured.
He condemned the killing of their fellow and demanded exemplary punishment of the killers.
According to locals, Nasim Reza Mukul, ameer of Amla union unit Jamaat-e-Islami, had an enmity with local BNP activist Rashed Mahmud Nasir centring the president post of the ad hoc committee of Murapara Secondary High School committee.
On Monday morning, local leaders and administration called for a meeting at the school to resolve the dispute, where the clash took place.
