Two more cases have been filed in Chattogram in connection with the recent wave of vandalism and arson attacks on police stations across the city.
A staggering 28,000 unidentified individuals have been accused in these cases.
The cases were registered late Tuesday night (27 August) at the Double Mooring and Halishahar police stations by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP). These new charges come on the heels of six earlier cases filed between August 22 and August 24, accusing a total of 115,000 unidentified people across six police stations, including Kotwali, Akbarshah, EPZ, Patenga, Sadarghat, and Pahartali.
Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz, additional commissioner of police (Public Relations) at CMP, stated that the attacks occurred on August 5, shortly after the fall of the Hasina government.
"Double Mooring and Halishahar police stations were among the eight stations targeted, suffering significant damage, including looting and arson," he said.
Sub Inspector (SI) Imam Hossain of Double Mooring Police Station has filed a case against an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 individuals. Meanwhile, SI Taufiqul Islam of Halishahar Police Station has filed a separate case under the Special Powers Act, accusing 15,000 to 16,000 unidentified people.
The attacks, which included the looting of weapons from eight police stations, have left a deep impact on the city's law enforcement infrastructure. Kotwali, Patenga, EPZ, Sadarghat, and Double Mooring were the most severely affected stations.
