Auditors on work abstention demanding end to pay scale discrimination
They said they will not return to work until their demands are met
Auditors under the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) went on a work abstention demanding the elimination of pay-grade disparity and the upgradation of their positions from grade 11 to grade 10.
The auditors of the Audit and Accounts Department voiced their demands during a press conference held at the National Press Club today (11 September).
"We will not return to work until our demands are met," Ahmadur Rahman Dalim announced on the occasion
In a written statement, Dalim emphasised that having two different salary structures for the same position cannot be justified as an administrative decision.
He urged the authorities to address such discrepancies in an ethical and responsible manner.
He also noted that following a writ petition, the High Court on 2 February 2016 ruled in favour of upgrading the posts within the CAG office and its subordinate offices from grade 11 to grade 10.
However, the Finance Division only upgraded the positions of 61 litigants involved in the writ petition, leaving the rest unaddressed.
Meanwhile, Dalim called for the resignation of the finance secretary, accusing him of being aligned with fascist interests and plotting to undermine the interim government by crippling the country's Audit and Accounts Department.
He stated that the finance secretary is directly responsible for the current situation and must be held accountable.
To demand the implementation of grade 10, all auditors, supervisors, and audit and accounting officers across various departments, districts, and upazilas nationwide, including Dhaka, have been holding an indefinite mass sit-in programme at the Accounts Building premises in Segunbagicha since 8 August.
The protesters said they will continue their programme until their demands are met.
