Awami League leader axed for criticising deals with India on Facebook
"Speaking for the country and speaking against India, Myanmar or the US cannot be an opinion against the party," Baharul stated
Khulna Awami League leader Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam was temporarily expelled from the party on October 7 for crticising India-Bangladesh deals on social media.
The decision was taken in an emergency meeting, chaired by Khulna Awami League President Sheikh Harunur Rashid, at the party office Wednesday evening.
"Baharul criticized the decision of the party's high command. Nobody reacted to the decision, why did he (Baharul)? If he has an opinion, he should discuss it with his peers. It was not just my decision to take disciplinary action against him. It was the unanimous decision of all 16 people who attended the emergency meeting," said Harunur.

In this regard, the Khulna Awami League Executive Committee member Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam said that he has not received any official paper or letter till now.
"As a conscious citizen of Bangladesh and an Awami League activist and freedom fighter, speaking for the country and speaking against India, Myanmar or the US cannot be an opinion against the party," Baharul said.
Criticising the decision, Baharul said, "If our rights continue to be violated by India's domination, our nation's sovereignty may also be questioned at one point. What I posted was not anti-party, anti-government or anti-state in any way. Yet they made this decision."
Baharul has been asked to show cause why he should not be recommended for permanent expulsion from the party within the next seven days.
Earlier this week, a student from Buet also was beaten to death by Buet unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League for criticising the same issue on social media.
