Bangladesh steps in global laptop market

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said Bangladesh has proven its excellence in the growing markets of portable computers by exporting laptops to Nepal and Nigeria.

While hinting that the Middle East might be new market for Bangladeshi devices, the minister urged the manufacturers to explore more markets in global arena.
The three-day event titled ‘ESET Laptop Fair 2019’ will continue till Saturday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) at Agargaon in the capital. Organiser Expo Maker hosted the event of its kind for twenty-first times.
Mustafa Jabbar also mentioned a market of 50 million laptops has developed inside the country as the government emphasises on digital education.
At the fair, buyers can get laptop from Tk 13,500 to Tk 6,30,000. Besides laptop other accessories like speaker, headphone, anti-virus software also available in the fair. After buying laptop, customers get scratch card and gift voucher.
Business Development Manager of HP Bangladesh, Mohammed Kawsar Ahmed said: “We are offering lucrative offer of scratch card by which customers can get Tk.700 to Tk.1 lakh.”
Mazharul Islam, who attended the fair from Mawna area of Gazipur, said: “Prices of laptop in the fair is reasonable compare to open market price. I bought 250 G6 Laptop from HP and got a scratch card. After scratching that I got Tk.700 price bond.”
Meanwhile, Assistant Manager of ASUS, Farhad Hossain said: “Government imposed more vat on imported Laptop so that we have to increase product prices. But still we are trying to keep our products price reasonable for the customers.”
Top-ranked computer brands displayed the latest products at different segments of the expo arena including 1 titled sponsor pavilion, 4 sponsor pavilions, 26 mini pavilions and 10 stalls.
Cyber security product ESET is the title sponsor of this edition of the fair while computer brands Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo patron the event as co-sponsors. Besides, technology focused internet newspaper Techshohor dotcom and EduMaker partner the expo as usual.
There is going on a quiz competition on social media (facebook.com/laptopfair.bd) where participants will be rewarded with attractive prize, according to the organizers.
The expo will remain open from 10am to 8pm. The entry fee is Tk 30, but The school students with uniform or identity card and physically impaired people can enter free.
