Ambassadors to present 3-year plan to parliamentary body from now on
The work plans of two new ambassadors – to Japan and Romania – have already been presented to the relevant parliamentary standing committee
From now on, ambassadors posted to Bangladesh's foreign missions will have to present their three-year work plans to the relevant parliamentary standing committee.
This initiative has been taken to make Bangladeshi ambassadors more accountable.
The activities started with the presentation of the work plan of the newly-appointed Ambassador to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmed and Ambassador to Romania Md Daud Ali at the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sunday, says a press release.

In this regard, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the two ambassadors, for the first time, presented what they, while on duty abroad, will do for the country and Bangladeshi expatriates.
"The parliamentary committee gave advice and guidance to the ambassadors on how to accelerate the development of the country and the people," said AK Abdul Momen.
"I think it has opened up a new horizon by bringing those in important positions – like ambassadors – under such planning and accountability," he added.
Mentioning that money and food aid were being provided to distressed expatriates, the minister said if expatriate workers are sacked abroad, the issue of six-months of salary and related benefits should be resolved.
Furthermore, the foreign ministry also remains open during general holidays to keep in touch with Bangladeshis and expatriates stranded in foreign lands.
Md Faruk Khan, chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, presided over the meeting.
Apart from State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Members of Parliament Md Habib E Millat, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, and Nahim Razzaq were also present at the meeting.
