Begum Rokeya’s sculpture unveiled in Rangpur

A sculpture of Begum Rokeya has been unveiled at Shalbon Indra intersection of Rangpur City.

Teachers from Government Begum Rokeya College, Begum Rokeya University, cultural activists, poets, writers and renowned persons of Rangpur were present at the sculpture unveiling programme.
The work on the sculpture was inaugurated three years ago but was suddenly stopped due to unknown reasons.
In the face of strong demands of local people, students and various quarters of Rangpur, the work finally resumed and has been complete after three years.
The sculpture has been named "Alokbartika" – meaning torchbearer. It has been made at a total cost of Tk15 lakh.
