BGB-BSF border talks begin in India's Guwahati
The conference will conclude with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions (JRD) on 25 December
A director general-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) began on Tuesday in Guwahati, the capital city of Indian State of Assam, BGB official said in a statement yesterday.
This is for the first time the conference is being held outside of Delhi.
BGB Director General (DG), Major General Md Shafeenul Islam is leading an 11-member Bangladesh delegation, while his counterpart, BSF DG Rakesh Asthana is heading a 12-member team.

The conference will conclude with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions (JRD) on 25 December.
The Bangladesh delegation will return home on 26 December.
The objective of the border talks is to discuss border-related issues, including the killing of Bangladeshi nationals along the borders, as well as enabling better coordination between border guards of Bangladesh and India.
"The conference will focus on addressing and streamlining mechanisms to jointly curb various trans-border crimes, and on the timely sharing of information between both border forces," said a press release.
There will be deliberations on infrastructure development, joint efforts for effective implementation of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).
When contacted, BGB headquarters Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam informed The Business Standard that the Bangladesh delegation had reached India via Tamabil (Sylhet)-Dauki (Meghalaya) Integrated Check Post (ICP).
Inspector General Hardeep Singh of BSF Meghalaya headquarters received the delegation.
The Bangladesh delegation then continued on to Guwahati by a BSF helicopter, where BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana welcomed them with a floral arrangement.
