Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today (25 December) detained three people with 14 gold bars worth Tk1.79 crore in Chuadanga.
The detainees are brothers Jakirul Islam and Rajibul Islam, son of Momin Mia and Solaiman Hossain, son of Mojibur Rahman from Shyampurpara under Chuadanga's Darshana municipality.
"The gold bars, weighing 1.630 kilogrammes, were recovered from Chuadanga Railway Station wrapped in tape from a hidden place after questioning the detainees this afternoon," Director of Chuadanga-6 BGB Lt Col Saeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said a team from Chuadanga-6 BGB took positions at the railway station after receiving reports of gold smuggling activities in the area.
"At one point, a passenger train reached the station. BGB members stopped some people after seeing them making rounds of the area aimlessly. They were chased and later detained as they tried to flee," the BGB director added.
He further said BGB will file a case with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station in this regard. The gold bars will be kept at Chuadanga Treasury Office.
