BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk172.2cr in November
They also detained 492 Bangladeshi citizens and 11 Indian nationals on charges of crossing border illegally
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods worth Tk172.2 crore in November from frontiers and other places across the country.
During the period, the BGB personnel arrested 209 smugglers, 492 Bangladeshi citizens and 11 Indian nationals on charges of crossing border illegally and took necessary legal action against them, said a BGB press release issued today (9 December).
They also detained 2,597 Myanmar citizens and sent them back to their country later, it added.

The seized contraband items are - 8.570 kilograms (Kgs) of gold, 16.795-kg of silver, 15,703 pieces of saris, 22,840 pieces of three-piece, shirt pieces, bedsheets and blankets, 14,406 ready-made garments, 29,529 meters of cloth, 2,90,900 cosmetics, 7,661 imitation goods, 15,689 cubic feet of wood, 6,828-kg of tea leaves, 4,16,727-kg of sugar, 5,713-kg of fertilizer, 1,33,370-kg of coal, 720 cubic feet of stone, 1,000 cubic feet of sand, 593 mobile displays, 36,223 glasses, 8,623-kg of various fruits, 49,754-kg of Bangladeshi garlic, 22,916-kg of cumin and one stone statue.
The BGB also seized 10 trucks, one bus, seven pickups, six private cars, microbuses, seven trolleys, 162 boats, 50 CNG-run easy bikes, 78 motorcycles, 11 vans and 23 bicycles which were used for smuggling.
During the period, the paramilitary force also recovered firearms that include six pistols, eight guns, one each rifle and revolver, seven cocktails, four magazines and 421 round of bullets.
In addition, a large amount of contraband narcotics was also seized by the BGB team last month.
The seized drugs and narcotics include 9,66,696 pieces of Yaba tablets, 1.25-kg of crystal meth ice, 6.737-kg of heroin, 23,449 bottles of Phensedyl, 15,549 bottles of foreign liquor, 393 liters of Bengali liquor, 805 cans of beer, 1,309-kg of marijuana, 1,25,114 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 1,50,922 narcotic tablets/injections, 3,239 bottles of Escafe syrup, 18.898-kg of cocaine, 590 bottles of MKDil/Kofidil, 1,145,098 pieces of various medicines and tablets, 14,436 Angro/Senegra tablets and 23 bottles of LSD.
