Sunken trawler recovered after 44 hours, no one found inside
The death toll from Friday's trawler capsize in the River Meghna in Kishoreganj's Bhairab has reached six as three more bodies were recovered today.
The bodies of Eva, daughter of missing police constable Md Sohel Rana; Rupa Dey from Kishoreganj, and Anika, a college student from Narsingdi, were recovered from the side of Syed Nazrul Islam Bridge and Ashuganj Power Station at Bhairab end of the river on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, two bodies were recovered on Saturday and one on Friday.
Three people are still missing.
This afternoon, the sunken trawler was salvaged by a rescue ship of the BIWTA.
However, no one was found inside, said Md Rezaul Karim, deputy director of Ashuganj-Bhairab river port.
He said the naval police will hand over the bodies to their relatives. Efforts to rescue the remaining missing individuals are underway.
Earlier, on Friday evening, the trawler with some 20-22 people on board en route to Bhairab from Ashuganj capsized in the river following a collision with a bulkhead near Bhairab.
Following the incident, local fishermen recovered the body of a passenger identified as Subarna Begum from Bhairab's Kamalnagar area, while eight had gone missing and the remaining others managed to swim ashore.
